Successful replacement of an existing solids feed with a new BIG-Mix V60

29

Oct2024

At a biogas plant in Baden-Württemberg, an old solids feeder with a loading volume of 40 m³ was recently replaced by a modern BIG-Mix V60. The new dosing unit made of full stainless steel has a loading volume of 61 m³ and now takes over the function of the previous feed system, which was operated with two mixing augers and a 37 kW drive motor each. The new BIG-Mix is characterised by an energy-efficient sliding floor and a 22 kW dosing and mixing auger, which monitors the filling level precisely thanks to an integrated radar sensor. This means that the mixing operation is now more optimised, making the overall operation more efficient and resource-saving.

The installation of the new BIG-Mix V60 presented several challenges that had to be successfully overcome. Firstly, the existing breakthrough in the fermenter for the 450 fermentation screw had to be adopted. In addition, reliable dosing was to continue to be guaranteed by a horizontal screw conveyor. Despite the cramped installation conditions in a pit, it was necessary to raise the loading volume to at least 60 m³. In addition, the loading height could not be higher than that of the old biomixer. These requirements were taken into account and implemented in every detail to ensure the smooth operation of the new plant.

Thanks to the careful preparation and high quality of our lead installation team, the system was successfully recommissioned on the second day of installation in close cooperation with another company.
